When to use Windows 10 Extended Security Updates

..You can purchase ESU licenses for Windows 10 devices that you don’t plan to upgrade to Windows 11 starting in October 2024, one year before the end of support date.

Note: The price will double every consecutive year, for a maximum of three years. If you decide to jump into the program in Year Two, you’ll have to pay for Year One too, as ESUs are cumulative…

    Traditional 5-by-5 activation

This is the base license and will cost $61 USD per device for Year 1, similar to the Windows 7 ESU Year 1 price…

    * I as consumer continue to use 0Patch Pro.

As you said in October last year. Nothing has changed apart from not enough clicks on the neowin site.  🙂

Other than saying that they are going to sell it through the most clunky selling process they have ever introduced  …. the volume licensing sales channel.

      A homeusers perspective to ponder:
Is ESU/ 0Patch just delaying the inevitable?
only you know that answer for your meeds..

Is it worth it for what WaaS is?
meh..it was/ is for perpetual Oses IMO

WaaS is nothing like the previous perpetual operating systems of yesteryear, which has been the framework since 2015, current and future adopted by redmond.

      Then consider..
Are increased tariffs/ taxations a possibility on imported IT hardware?
How much more are you willing to ‘pay to delay’ using either ESU/ 0Patch is entirely up to you..

(these are just my thoughts in the current US landscape) YMMV

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...

What perpetual OS? They all have bugs that someone has to pay to fix. Currently this is free for Windows for around 10 years.

Tarrifs will be short lived – max 4 years. I can see my hardware easily lasting that long.

      cheers, Paul

      Hi Alex5723:

It should be noted that the section you quoted in your original post # 2744969 from today’s 03-Feb-2025 Neowin article Microsoft shares updated Windows 10 paid extended support program details refers to volume licensing prices for the Enterprise ESU that commercial businesses can extend for up to 3 years. The important quote at the bottom of that Neowin article for home consumers is:

“Microsoft also offers an extended support program for consumers for $30“.

From the 31-Oct-2024 Microsoft blog How to prepare for Windows 10 end of support by moving to Windows 11 today:

“And for the first time ever, we’re introducing an ESU program for personal use as well. The ESU program for consumers will be a one-year option available for $30. Program enrollment will be available closer to the end of support in 2025.”

      I read the following:

*** The editions that qualify for the Windows 10 ESU include Enterprise, Education, and Pro in Commercial use.
