Microsoft Confirms Slow VPN Connection Issues on Windows 11 (petri.com)

It appears that Microsoft is fixing the VPN issue in next month’s security update

July 26, 2023—KB5028254 (OS Build 22621.2070) Preview – Microsoft Support

“This update addresses an issue that affects virtual private networks (VPN). There might be excessive Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) requests to the network gateway. This occurs when the VPN is on a wireless mesh network that uses an aggressive throttling algorithm. Because of this, network performance is poor.”

So it appears that folks with Mesh WiFi of unknown vendors are seeing this the most.

Also showcasing once again my compliant about lack of transparency.  This VPN issue is not documented in the Windows heath release dashboard.

I am using a highly-secure (non-US) VPN. There are multiple US sites that go crazy when I use the VPN. It’s as though they cannot handle a VPN.

I have done a deep dive, and those sites are taking liberties with all sorts of standard protocols. I have told several sites that if they cannot handle VPNs, I will not use their sites.

Keep in mind this is when using a VPN to connect into a business server while using a Mesh router, not the situation where you are getting prompted for additional authentication prompts.  Here at the office I actually block access to our network from non US locations so if you tried to remote into here, I’d block you.  Be aware that choices you make may impact access.  We’re just trying to do the best we can to limit access and the use of a VPN does not make it easy to ascertain you are a good netizen.

Go here – https://cleantalk.org/blacklists and do a scan of the IP you’re using to see if it’s seen by others as being abusive.

I am not using a mesh router with this computer.  I am aware of that issue, and you are quite correct that it causes problems with some mesh routers;

I have tracked the problem simply to servers that are used by nefarious people and whose presence is difficult to eliminate.  By using the same VPN and servers not used so much, it eliminates the problem.

Thank you for staying op top of the issue you raised about mesh systems.

I’s been documented in the Windows release health Message center for at least two weeks now:
