    Win XP Pro, Office XP
I am having a lot of difficulty getting back on to the office email system after reformatting my hard disk and re-installing everything.
When I go to Control Panel, and double-click on Mail, I get the Mail Setup dialog box, where I can setup email accounts, Data files, and Profiles.
With other computers on the network, when I go to Control Panel, and double-click on Mail, I get a Properties of Microsoft Outlook screen, with Tabs for Services, Remise, and Addressage (The other computers are setup in French). My colleague says that it is from this screen that he set up the Mail for those computers.
On those computers, they run Outlook 2000 and Win XP. He says that to get that screen, he had to activate something, but he can’t remember what. I offered to jolt his memory with a whack on the head, but he says that wouldn’t help.

Why don’t I get that screen on my computer ? Any ideas ?

Kevin, The setup for Office XP is significantly different than earlier versions. It is supposed to be easier. The dialog box you receive is correct. Just follow the email account path. The setup is failry stratigh forward. You should be able to get all the information for the server from any other PC on the network.

Hmmm, I tried that Joe, and it doesn’t find me when I ask to check my mailbox name.

on the first screen you should get a selection menu listing various email account types and you would choose Exchange server, assuming it is an exchange account you are setting up. The second screen askes for the server information and checks the names.

If you really do mean Microsoft Mail aka MS Mail or WGPO, you need the fix from http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/msmail_xp.htm%5B/url%5D. It would be listed under other server types once it’s installed.

Thanks MaryJ, you are right on. I really did mean MSMail, and the fix fixed it. My colleague was so impressed that he wants me to take over administration of the mail system. “Decline.” I showed him your message, but he still seems to think I did it alone.

Marvellous source of information, Woody’s Lounge and the people in it. Thanks a lot.
