Two different occurances.  The first was yesterday on domain-joined PCs Windows 10 Pro 22H2.  When clicking on the start button, then the user icon to choose sign-out, the user is asked to create a Microsoft account.  These domain PCs have never experienced this prior.  They have the January 2025 security updates installed, the February not yet as it’s controlled by WSUS.  The only updates installed between then and now are Edge updates.  Has Microsoft started sneaking in junkware as part of Edge updates?

The seond occurance was this morning on my personal laptop.  My login screen (with the generic backgroud photo) suddenly has an overlay of weather, stocks, news, and other tiles.  The laptop just received the February 2025 updates.

In any event, the prior settings to control this type of junkware seem to now be ignored in Microsoft’s quest for doing whatever Microsoft wants…

Several months running now, I have experienced the lockscreen or background “Picture” being randomly replaced by “Windows Spotlight” after an update. Check Settings\Personalization

I was pretty annoyed when the same thing happened to me.  So far, only once but Microsoft’s use of an update to override user preference settings is arrogant and obnoxious.  Then again, that’s nothing new for MS! ‘Nuff said.
