Per the topic discussion below, how did this same update work out for ver 1903?

For 1803 and 1809 how will this Cumulative Update come down the Windows Updater?  If it is Non-Security and you don’t press the Check for Updates button, will it come down?  Or do we wait until next month’s update? Or obtain from the Windows Catalog?

The MS pages for KB4499183 and KB4497934 say:

Install this update

To download and install this update, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates.

To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

Are these going to be from the catalog only or available through Windows Update also ?

I just ran wushowhide and they’re not coming up for me. Also, is this going to be something we want or just another Microsoft trick to install something we don’t need ?

Check to be sure all you deferrals are set to 0 and you have SAC (Targeted) instead of SAC. Also no Metered Connections or update blocking software.

You may have to wait a while if MS is throttling the update.

We need more feedback on how it ended up within version 1903 as this is what MS is implementing into versions 1803 and 1809.

PK thanks, but how about some context regarding how this New Update Feature ultimately worked out on ver 1903 so we know whether this update is ready for prime time or not.  Last I read in the thread below we (Woody) didnt even know if Microsoft delivered to 1903 what was promised.

Also, did MS take any of our Windows 10 Pro, tried and true update/defer methods away? Or remove any relied upon Group Policy selections? Does wushowhide still work?

Leave it to MS to further muddy up the waters by trying to “help”.
I have more questions now than I did before the day started.
I still wonder if 1803 will be upgraded to 1903 and skipping 1809 like Gregg Kaizer states.
I wonder what this means for CB/CBB/SAC(T)/SAC terminology and the settings implied.
What does this do for deferrals?

Again, more questions than there were answers to this morning.
One step closer to throwing my hands up and wiping everything in favor of Ubuntu at home.
For its share of problems, Linux at least doesn’t muck up updates, typically. Or user choice.

For in-place upgrades, Windows 10 has always supported skipping up to two Feature Updates.  For example, if you’re running 1709 today, you can skip 1803 and 1809 and go right to 1903.

That said…. it won’t surprise me if they expand that window to three Feature Updates, given that Microsoft expanded the support window from 18 months to 30 months for some versions of Windows 10.   Windows 10 1709 is supported until April 2020, and presumably there will be at least one more Feature Update before that date…..

Before upgrade to 1903, nothing changes.

After upgrade to 1903, none of those exist; because there’s no more (Targeted).

I installed the update and i don’t see any obvious changes in the update settings.

Don’t know if you will actually see anything until a feature update is available.

I did check for updates after i installed the cumulative update and it did not offer me 1903.

v1903 rollout is probably being throttled by Microsoft, and may not show up for you right away, even if you are a Seeker.

Yep i will make a new system image in the morning and download it from the update page.

I will let everyone know how it goes but i am not anticipating any problems.

I did the updates on 3 machines. 2 Pro and 1 home. After the updates and reboot then clicking check for updates nothing looks different on the Pro machines but the home machine offered an option to update to 1903 under the check for updates button.

So it worked like Microsoft said it would? It offered you the update but did not force you to install it?

Yes, on the home machine. It didn’t offer it on the Pro machines even though they were set to get the latest updates.

Since Win 10 Pro has Group Policy to defer Feature updates, I “Assume” this change is for Win 10 Home, is that correct???? It may change the interface (settings>WU>Advanced) in Win 10 Pro but the Group Policy’s should be the same wouldn’t they??

Being “1809 Home” — & — with Macrium Images just made — I Updated Kb4497934 – nets 17763.529.

I presume the 1903 Timing Offers will appear when available to what should be a “Ready” machine.

Having inst’d the 5/21 Kb4497934 Update I clk’d – Check for Updates – & did NOT see any 1903 mention, particularly, “I’m here and Clk when ready” as the Update should do. I may have one of the issues that nets a 1903 Block for me.
