This app can’t run because it causes security or performance issues on Windows. A new version may be available. Check with your software provider for an updated version that runs on this version of Windows

I can just hear the MS engineers now…“We’re not smart enough to give the users what they want and I’ll be darned if we’ll let some whipper snap company do it.”

Nothing new here.  They started doing that with StartIsBack.  When I upgraded to 23H2 I got that, but StartAllBack installation started anyway.  I didn’t even have to reinstall it, just click “Install for everyone”, and even my personalizations were intact.

Often these third-party apps use an API that is old or not public. Microsoft may have decided to change it or remove it.

Microsoft may have decided to change it or remove it.

This appears to be a direct block by Microsoft, not a changed/removed API.

Microsoft’s warning does ask the user to check if a new version of the app is available, but at the time of writing, there is no update to StartAllBack that fixes this issue. However, the developer of the app is aware of the issue, and advises anyone affected by the error to perform the executable renaming trick to get around Windows 11’s check.”

Renaming the executable for a successful installation indicates no change in the API being used.

Here are the apps that could block you from upgrading to Windows 11 version 24H2

Windows 11 version 24H2, which is coming later this year and is currently available in the Windows Insider program, is a big system update, unlike version 23H2. Naturally, Microsoft wants to ensure the operating system works well on supported hardware and does not cause trouble for customers. For this reason, Microsoft will block devices with incompatible software, hardware, or drivers from getting to the new version…

      ConisioAdmin.exe (Solidworks PDM)
EaseUS Disk Copy.exe (EaseUS Disk Copy Application)
      ep_dwm.exe (ExplorerPatcher) Included since 22H2
iCloudServices.exe (iCloud files shared in Explorer via WhatsApp) from 23H2
RadeonSoftware.exe (AMD GPU perf settings) From 23H2
      StartAllBackCfg.exe (StartAllBack) Included since 22H2
      Multi-mon + Copilot (Microsoft)
      MergeSdb (Microsoft)
      Intel IntcOED.sys (Intel)
      Intel IntcAudioBus.sys (Intel) (%WinDir%\System32\drivers\IntcAudioBus.sys)
Realtek 8192su Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (Realtek) (%WinDir%\System32\drivers\RTL8192su.sys)..

Here are the apps that could block you from upgrading to Windows 11 version 24H2

        From the linked article:

“… discovered that Microsoft expanded it with new programs that could theoretically block you from getting to Windows 11 version 24H2.”

More FUD.  I can wait.  I’ve already checked my unsupported hardware for SSE4.2/4a instruction set and they’re both good.
