Microsoft Copilot app getting installed on Windows devices

..This new app does not power the actual Copilot functionality at this point, apparently…

The best way to check if the app is installed is the following one:

Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
Change the sort order to “Date installed” or type Copilot into the search field.
If you see Microsoft Copilot listed, it is installed.
Note that you may use the uninstall option to remove it again from the system. A click on “advanced options” reveals some details. The app’s version is 1.0.3.0 and the site is 0 bytes at the time…

This suggests that it is a placeholder app that has no functionality of its own at the time..

I noticed it after installing Edge 123.0.2420.53 a couple of days ago.

Easily uninstalled it with Revo Uninstaller > Window Apps.

We’ve been talking about it for a week and I’ve been asking Microsoft with no results

      @Alex5723 – Windows 10 or Windows 11, or both?

Edit – Nevermind, I see the linked piece mentions only Windows 11. But I’m still curious if anyone has had this dribble out to their Windows 10 . . .

not sure if you’re are asking about Microsoft Copilot in Windows 10? Or Windows Copilot in Windows 10?

I got Microsoft Copilot in Windows 10, 22H2. See #2653283 where I started a topic about it.

I thought it was Windows Copilot, even though the app says “Microsoft Copilot,” so the discussion starts with the wrong assumption. But later this Microsoft Copilot is attributed to Edge Beta (on my Windows 10 devices).

Now, devices with regular Edge are getting Microsoft Copilot, too.

Yes this was first seen in the beta of Edge on a Windows 10.

2 PC’s running Windows 10 22H2 with March CU updates installed and Edge updated to v122.0.2365.92.

No sign of either Microsoft CoPilot or Windows CoPilot anywhere on those systems!

Windows 10 Home 22H2. No CoPilot here so far. March patches installed. Edge version 122.0.2365.92. From what I can tell, Edge 123.0.2420.53 is the beta, so it may still show up later.

      Edge updated to v122.0.2365.92.

That is not the last version of Edge.

      • #2653462

Just checked and, according to About Edge, that’s the latest version.

        Edge-says-its-current

And, unlike some other browsers, there’s no “Check for updates” option in Edge to force an update check.

          About
          Microsoft Edge
          Version 122.0.2365.92 (Official build) (64-bit)

I feel your pain, friend. I currently have a handful of Win11 Pro 22H2 boxes that likewise seem “stuck” on Edge Version 122.0.2365.92, unable/unwilling to update to Edge Version 123.0.2420.53. Attempted manual update (Alt+F > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge): no joy… restarted Edge, retried manual update: no joy… restarted Windows, retried manual update: no joy… repaired Edge installation (Settings > Apps > Apps & features > Microsoft Edge): no joy…

Weird. Unusual. Never had this problem before. But I’m having it now.

          Hope this helps.

Hello, same anon as just above (#2653543).

For the record, problem described just above (i.e., Edge browsers “stuck” on Edge Version 122.0.2365.92, not updating to Edge Version 123.0.2420.53, first seen on 3/25) has now been explained… bottom line: Edge Version 123.0.2420.53 was quietly pulled – so actual problem was mostly just Microsoft’s initial lack of transparency regarding the issue on their end.

            Hope this helps.

One of my machines (ETA: Win10) just received a Copilot (preview) button in my systray. It can be disabled by right-clicking the taskbar. I checked in Settings> Apps and there is no sign of copilot there.

      CoPilot-1
