      Interesting, because Microsoft fixed the bug in the next-next version of Windows, 19H1, in build 18262…

      Yeah, well… they probably put all hopes on that edition…

        But, Microsoft bundle it with their latest and greatest flagship OS so…
        yeah, winRAR or 7-Zip it is for better compression levels and now RELIABILITY! 🙂

      I found the bug a couple of weeks ago and installed 7Zip, not realizing that it was more than just my PC acting up. At least 7Zip works as expected, unlike Windows 10.

      Simple workaround for 1809 until fixed in a couple of weeks:

      Extract all files from the Zip file to a new folder (before moving a file to an existing folder with same filename).

      (Yes, this was already hinted at in the original post here; but I was slow to understand the rare circumstances which could cause a file to be “wiped”.)
