    Happy Cinco de Mayo!

This morning when I opened Microsoft 365 Outlook I got a nag screen telling me how wonderful it would be if I logged on with a Microsoft account so that all my devices could be synced (I definitely don’t want that) and my digital life would be wonderful, or words to that effect.

I went to Local Group Policy Editor > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts > Users can’t add or log on with Microsoft accounts > Apply > OK and then rebooted.

When I opened Outlook this time, no nag screen.  I’ll see how long this lasts.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

This is interesting. Please post a follow-up on the success of this GPE setting.

It appears to be successful.  I have yet to see another such nag popup.

      Hi bbearen:

I log in to Windows with a Microsoft Account and use MS Office Home and Business 2019 C2R. Ever since the latest Version 2304 / Build 16327.20214 (rel. 25-Apr-2023) update was applied on 02-May-2023 I occasionally see a toggle switch appear in the top-right corner of my MS Outlook 2019 interface so I can turn on the “new” Microsoft Outlook UWP app. It only appears intermittently so I don’t have a screenshot at the moment but that toggle switch to turn on “New Outlook” can be seen in images in the Microsoft support article Getting Started With the New Outlook for Windows and the Microsoft 365 Insider blog  at Starting to Support Third-party Accounts in New Outlook for Windows Preview.

I don’t know if I accidentally triggered something when I hovered over that toggle switch but I happened to check my Microsoft Store library today and was shocked to see that this “free” MS Outlook for Windows UWP app was installed on my Win 10 computer on 03-May-2023 without my knowledge.

I wonder if your nag screen in MS Outlook 365 is related to Microsoft’s push to force users onto this new MS Outlook for Windows UWP app?

      Thanks Bbearren!

I applied this to all of my machines because I was curious if I could still logon to my MS 365 account for Office 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

      The answer is YES!

Since applying the change I haven’t seen a nag screen/message to use a MS Account.

May the Forces of good computing be with you!
