When we set a metered connection, is it necessary to “restart” or reboot to apply
the setting ?

No @WSaltamirano, it’s instant.

So how come that when I was on Win10 1909, when I was setting a metered connection and then resume updates, they were showing but not installed. Since I am on 20H2, when I set a metered connection and then unpaused updates, they installed automaticaly.
That seems to be an effect of Windows Update. Maybe @PKCano could shed some light on when WU checks if you are metered.
Although I’m on 20H2, I only use metered as ‘belt and braces’ and rely on the other techniques to contraol when updates are installed. I use Group Policy settings and check with WUMT to see what WU will suggest, and then only turn off metered once I want the updates to download.

Unpause ignores all your settings.
When you have metered set you must not pause.
cheers, Paul
Warning for Metered Connections: yesterday I had an error in Windows Update with a Retry button. Clicking Retry ignores the metered setting and downloads and installs everything.
The solution is to use WuMgr to install the updates, leaving WU to catch up later.
cheers, Paul
This is weird because I swear that when I was on 1909, I was setting a metered connection and then click on resume updates and they were appearing in the queue but they did not install and I had a “download”button. Also there was a notice saying “when youre ready to install these updates, click on dowload” !!! And this was on Win 10 1909 Home !
