Merging $$$ Currency (2002)

I am trying to take a file from Excel that has a column with prices in them, and mail merge into word to create labels/price tags on an Avery 5160 label. I cannot seem to import/merge the dollar $ign and any zero’s behind the decimal point. What I get when I merge $1.70 is “1.7”

Any ideas????

You will have to re-do the formatting in Excel. Right-click the price merge field (in the merge document) and select Toggle Field Codes. You will see something like

{ MERGEFIELD “Price” }

Insert a format switch before the closing bracket:

{ MERGEFIELD “Price” # “$ 0.00” }

Then right-click the field again and select Toggle Field Codes. If you were already looking at a preview of the merged data, press F9 to update the field.

You need to use the # Numeric Picture switch to set the formatting. Unfortunately in 2002 it is a fair bit more difficult to insert the switch from the wizard. To find out more about the switches do a search in Word Help on numeric picture switch.
