Menu builder software ?

I have two “shared” computers in my office that have accessories and software that perhaps not every other computer has, such as the large-format scanner, label printer, CD/DVD writer, SD card reader, etc. etc.

In order to give the user a nice, easy to use consistent interface, I thought that something that would allow me to easily construct a poitn and click menu to use all the toys on the computer would be nice.

Something more visible than a shortcut bar or the start menu.

You could write your own menu(s) with a compiled AutoIt script. You can download AutoIt here. It’s also mentioned in some older threads in Software Finds and Wants.
It’s got loads of other uses too.

There are probably as many “program launchers” around as there are programs . You could start by looking at some of the offerings at NONAGS Launch Bar Tools – Freeware.

My personal favorite used to be the ware PowerPro. It’s very powerful/ flexible and highly configurable, but there is a bit of a learning curve. See some of the Sample Launchbars for the kind of thing you might be after.

Now, since I know exactly how I want my own PC set up, I use a custom toolbar with subfolders (mine’s collapsed in the taskbar, but you can have it floating if you want) and a vbScript “Send To” item, that lets me send any shortcut off to my “launchbar”, with my own custom title. This approach can be easily modified to suit personal preferences. Attachment shows dialog when I right-click notepad.exe, then Send To -> Launch Bar as Shortcut.

Lots of choices here.
