We have already taken care of this problem but would like to find a more user friendly solution.

We had a user that managed to remove the Menu Bar AND all Toolbars from her editing window. She was NOT in Full Screen view. We right-clicked everywhere on the screen to try to find some spot that will allow us to get the Toolbar list or Customize. No luck. We rebooted, followed all of the suggestions in KB 312589 and none worked.

Any ideas? Any start-up/command line switches we could have used?

We finally deleted this person’s profile on the PC and had them log backin. I know that sounds harse but the user had an urgent need to get back in and use Word. Also, this was an okay solution for this ONE person because she isn’t a power user that would have customized settings. The next time it might be a power user and deleting their profile won’t be an option.

    Thanks.

You can hide all toolbars, but you’re not supposed to be able to hide the menu bar. I suppose the user managed to undock the menu bar, then move it offscreen.

If it occurs again, you might try the following:

      – Activate the Visual Basic Editor by pressing Alt+F11.
      – Activate the Immediate window by pressing Ctrl+G.
      – Type Commandbars(“Menu Bar”).Position = msoBarTop and press Enter.

This should restore the menu bar to the top of the Word application window. After that, you should be able to display toolbars by selecting Tools | Customize… If not, repeat the above for the toolbars that are missing. The “default” toolbars are named “Standard” and “Formatting”.
