As per the latest Woody’s Office Watch, I installed the security patch for Media Player 7.1 and after clicking on “Finish” an “illegal operation” error message was displayed with the following details:

“SETUP_WM caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL”

Has anyone else experienced this? Has the security patch been successfully installed? What should I do about this, if anything?

    Thank you in anticipation.

According to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-056,

      Verifying patch installation:
To verify that the patch has been installed on the machine, confirm that the following registry key has been created: HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftUpdatesWindows Media Playerwm308567
To verify the individual files, use the patch manifest provided in Knowledge Base article Q308567

I hope it will help you.
