When I play a CD, it sounds like a scratchy, dirty record. The sound stutters and skips constantly. All I have running is Outlook, IE6 and antivirus software. Any ideas what the problem might be?

If this is a NEW CD, it may have the copy protection and some of them will NOT play very well in a computer cd player. evilgrin

I’ve tried this with new and old Cd’s. No difference. I never had this problem when I used NT Workstation. I have the latest hardware drivers and software patches. Any other ideas what might be going on?

Not a solution but a trouble-shooting tip. Download Winamp from http://www.winamp.com (free program) and play the CDs with that. Does the problem still exist? If no, then you can limit your inqueries to Media Player. If yes, then you know you’ve got bigger problems.

I found the problem–my sound card was not fully supported by XP Pro. I got system sounds fine, and some music, cut cd’s were no good. Went out and bought a SB 16 PCI and everything’s fine now. smile
