I found you’ve posted a lot re: MPC and I thought you might be able to help me out.  I’ve used MPC v6.4.9.1 revision 107 on and off for years and a few months ago deleted WMP in favor of MPC full time.  I’ve used other software through the years but always went back to either WMP or MPC as they worked for me.  A month or so ago I went looking for MPC updates as the version I have does not do a good job of playback of color videos – brightness/contrast aren’t good and there is no adjustment in the version of MPC.  That’s when I found MPC-HC.  Cool!!!  I tried it out and found adjustments for color presentation which work well for me.  There’s the background.

Here’s my problem.  As MPC is my default player for music and videos with Win10 I cannot recall how to create separate MPC desktop folders; one for my music files and one for video files as well as a MPC desktop shortcut.  I used to have them on the desktop but when I began diddling around with so-called improvements I deleted them and don’t recall how I did it.  As it is now if I create a music folder and attempt to create a separate video folder the music folder is overwritten with videos and vice-versa.  Using the “save as” function by right clicking in the playlist does not save the folder – at least for me.  A mpcpl shortcut is created and placed on my desktop but “does not have an app associated with it” as the verbiage states so it can’t work.

I currently have two separate MPC labeled icons/apps/pinned programs, whatever the term, on my taskbar and each plays either a shuffled music playlist or a shuffled video playlist but I can’t move them onto the desktop as shortcuts for future use.  I could keep them on the taskbar permanently but prefer a move to the desktop because that’s where they used to reside and work.  Help, please and thank you for the assist.

Thanks for your response and assist.  I downloaded the v2.4.0.x64.exe yesterday and read your post this AM.  I’ll install the version later today and follow the folder creation notes and update when I get it done.  Thank you!

      Hello Alex5723,

Here is an update re:  MPC-HC and the desktop creation of separate music and video  folders.  Download/install of the latest version was normal and looked good.  Started executing the notes for the folder creation and got to a part where I said to self, “huh?”.  I couldn’t make it work.  Tonight I thought I’d highlight the section and let you read it for any advice.  But Perplexity.ai/ presented me with this:  Application error: a client-side exception has occurred while loading http://www.perplexity.ai (see the browser console for more information).  Whether I clicked on your link, which worked over the weekend, or tried to open the link on my browser tonight the note appeared.  After time I thought, “that’s enough for now” – I’ll live to fight another day.

On Sunday I did restore my original MPC using a Macrium backup and the folders did appear on the desktop and they work.  I still would like to update to the latest MPC version because video playback color rendering is much better and try the folder creation another time.  That’s it and thank you again for the assist.

I feel that I need to put a “wrap” on the MPC subject as you’ve provided your help along the way and I thank you again.

Currently using the original MPC (v6.4.9.1 revision 107) with my desktop music and video folders playing normally.  At some time I’ll get the bug to download the latest MPC-HC and attempt to duplicate what I have in the format I have.  Still don’t know why Perplexity.ai will not open as it did the first time I used it via your link.  Tonight it opened for several seconds or more and then defaulted to “internal error”.  Attempting to open from my browser yielded the same response.

Maybe we’ll communicate again on the Internet highway one day…

      Bill T
