Does anyone know the maximum amount of RAM that Windows 2000 Pro actually uses. I know that you can put as much RAM in as your mother board allows but how much does the OS actually Use?

    Thanks

What are you going to be running on your Win2K platform – lots of multimedia, plain word-processing or small databases or………………?

Running databases, queries and writing/testing some code!

Well, I read your question to be saying: if I buy more than a certain amount of memory, then I will be wasting my money. My instinct is that you should probably be able to operate quite comfortably on 1Gb. If you were looking at running WinXP and/or running queries against several DBs simultaneously, then I would up it – but otherwise 1Gb should give you quite a bit of elbow room.

The best answer for you is to watch the system use of memory and buy more if it isn’t enough. If you have a lot of swapping to disk, buy more memory. If it runs decently then don’t bother.
