Master patch list pre-2019 for Win8.1?

Reinstalling Windows 8.1 and Office from scratch, I found to my surprise that Susan Bradley’s Master patch list provided on this site only covers the current year (2019) with some buried links (halfway down the page) to single month articles for 2018.

Next to the buried 2018 links are links to a historical Windows 7 list in MS Excel format only, and a link to AKB2000003 which isn’t structured as a list and still doesn’t cover the first years after Win8.1 release.

I started with a WSUSOFFL file set but that still left a bunch of older “important” updates being offered by WU.

So where, O where can we find the equivalent to the non-Win7 master patch list for the years 2014 to 2018 inclusive?

AKB2000003 Covers Group B Security-only and IE11 CUs from Group B’s onset in Oct. 2016 until the present for both Win7 and Win8.1.
Group B’s concern is the Cumulative Updates that contained telemetry. It did not exist until MS changed the patching method. So there are no patches listed in AKB2000003 before Group B’s inception.
The links in AKB2000003 are direct MS Catalog downloads.

That is precisely the problem. Before the patchocalypse, various bad patches were released on their own with various not-always obvious descriptions. When doing a full system reinstall, WU ends up suggesting updates that were not superseded by the chosen set of group B security bundle updates. So a list is still (permanently?) needed of which of the pre-patchocaplypse or otherwise unbundled updates (like the random updates that went out for specific issues) that are good or bad.

AKB2000003 and the other lists I mentioned doesn’t provide that data, and it’s quite difficult and error prone to search the lounge and general internet for each KB number, then filtering out the useless results (such as posts just mentioning every patch on their system).

For example, KB2976978 is one of the known bad updates, while KB3138962 might be good. This is the kind of data in the master patch list for 2019 that I lack for the earlier years.

I am also looking for a clear, precise list of KB’s. I agree with JohnFDoe. Particularly his point regarding searching the lounge and filtering out posts that just repeat every patch. Its hugely frustrating and time consuming. Also why is’nt it a requirement to include your OS W7/8/10 & group A/B/G etc? This would make searching a lot easier. It’s disappointing that no one has responded to this.

Everyone here is a volunteer.
I spend 16 hours/day answering questions and helping to maintain the Lounge.
Perhaps one of you have the time to create and maintainn such a list as you want. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Woody to volunteer.

I appreciate everyone’s efforts. Thank you all. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to maintain a list. What about my suggestion to include your OS & group choice in posts? This would certainly help.

OK. I don’t know if this is possible, or if it creates all sorts of issues I’m unaware of, but why not ask for the OS & Group at registration? Then include it against the posters user name as a default on every post. Seems to me a basic necessity given the importance group choice has on posts.

I’d be willing to bet that most folks who register here don’t have a clue what “group” they’d belong in (at time of registration).

I don’t know what “group” I belong in, or that I belong in any sort of “group.”

Well, here again, we are using the basic WordPress software which doesn’t have that facility.

And then, just in my case, I have MacOS, iOS, WinXP, Win7 (Home, Pro, and Ultimate), Win8.1, Win10 v1803, v11809, v1903, and Insider Preview. (No Linux of various distros like many here). But I’d be at a quandry to figure out which one to register with.

In addition to Group A and Group B, there is also a Group W, which doesn’t patch at all, and the ones that follow @Canadian-Tech that patch through May 2017 but do not have a Group name. Our IT folks with Enterprise updating using server controlled patching fall in a completely different category. There are no Groups for Linux and Apple OSs, or for Win10 for that matter either.

What I’m getting at here is, AskWoody is not just for posters with Win7/8.1, defined by patching methods. There are even Forums for non-OS topics. We have over 1M posts going back years, including all the Windows Secrets Lounge data which we imported earlier this year. If you are looking for something, and the local Searchbox doesn’t find it, you can use Google Search (for example) by adding “site:AskWoody.com” to your search. Or, if you have a specific question/problem, you can post a topic in the proper Forum and probably get a resolution.
