I do not know why my update on Susan’s list says “Install OOB on your domain controllers”
I just use mine as a home computer. Should I install?
thanks

PK Cano some years ago you helped me set up GP Edit on a Windows 10 Pro computer. Forward to now when I am retired in another country with a new Windows 11 Pro laptop and in the September of My Years, better make that October! Your instructions were screen by screen that were easy to follow and stood me in great stead. Is it at all possible to revisit these great instructions for Windows 11 Pro for this Senior Citizen to have a little control over the MS Updates once again. In those past times I was a paid member of this site but under a different log in name, with a now defunct ISP account and a considerably better memory. I greatly appreciated your help then and hope you may be able to assist again. So sorry for any inconvenience. Sincere thanks. Chris R.
The instructions for Windows Update settings for Win10 are in AKB2000016, screenshots at the bottom.
The settings for Win11 are in a similar location (under Windows Update) but the sections are named somewhat different. Automatic Updates ON, “2” notify download/install, don’t include drivers with quality updates etc. Just look around in there. wushowhide still works in my Win11, but you may prefer WUMgr.
There is also a lot of information about blocking stuff you don’t want in the AKB‘s
Sorry old memory. Windows 11 ProVersion 23H2 preinstalled on an Asus laptop. As for KB number only those Susan OKs. I’d prefer to not to have to rely on MS’s ‘defer up dates’ and have the whole shooting match dumped on me once the defer period expires. Previously the update were shown for me to download. There were five or six settings you highlighted in GP Edit. At present I’m using defer updates until…. and WuShowHide. I need more automated settings that don’t rely on me and my memory. I wish I could be more detailed. Alas I can’t, other than to say I recall your original posting number ending in?????? 006. Sincere thanks.
If you set the “2” in Group Policy, you should NOT use Pause. The updates will remain in the queue until you click the Download button. Never click “Check for updates” as it will start an immediate download/install of all available updates.
wushowhide does NOT work when Pause is set, because both Windows Update and wushowhide use the Windows Update Service to scan for updates. Pause disables the Windows Update Service, so neither can scan.

In a word, no. Domain controllers are servers that are the “head” of multiple computers and provide active directory functions. That’s why I put it in the business computer setting. It does not pertain to home computers.
(yes there are some IT pros somewhere that run a domain controller in your home network and you probably know who you are)

the answer is NO if using a home PC, which usually use “client” editions of Windows like Windows 10 1809 or LTSC 2019 version 1809.
domain controllers are used on Server based editions of Windows; in this case Windows Server 2019 users should install the recent OOB update {in this case that OOB update is KB5037425 released on Mon 3/25} to fix the memory leak problems on their Server 2019 OSes (which is also based on the 1809 version).
but in your case, 69800, it is not necessary for you to download & install the recent OOB update if running LTSC 2019 or any non-Server edition of Windows 10 v1809. another reason why PKCano asked you earlier what Windows version & edition you are currently running on your computer > you can gather details about the Windows version and edition by typing winver.exe in the Run dialog box.
