I had a critical problem after applying those 4 patches via Windows Update. Explorer.exe and Consent.exe freeze the entire system and you have to use the last system restore point to solve the problem. To restore I had to reboot with F8 because the system becomes unresponsive after the install of the patches.

      Windows 7 x64 and Office 2016 x86 (32 bits)

Unless you have a specific need to install them, you should wait until Susan Bradley (Patch Lady) approves them and any problems have been reported.

That’s the very reason the advice in the Post says to wait until Susan approves the patches.

Are all of the various Microsoft patches/updates included in the automatic (if enabled) Windows updates? Or do some of these require individual downloads?

Correct you will be offered up what you need to stay safe.
