I have a Seagate 2TB Barracuda HD which I removed from from a previous Dell desk top PC.

I want to retrieve some data from this drive and save it to an external USB drive.  I purchased a Sabrent USB 3.0 Hard Drive Flat Docking Station and installed the Seagate drive in the docking station.  I connected the docking station to a Dell Inspiron laptop and tried to access the Seagate drive from Explorer.

The Seagate drive shows up in Explorer, but I could not access the data.  What is my next step?  Do I need to “map” the Seagate drive in the laptop?  If so, what is the proper method to do this?

The laptop is running WIN 10 22H2.

You should be able to access any of the files by using Windows Explorer just by plugging it in. The only thing I can think of is, maybe it has Bitlocker (or something like that) installed? Here is a Seagate USB External Troubleshooter.

It may be a permission issue as the old disk will have been setup for a different user. (What error message do you get?)
You can take ownership of the files on that disk to fix this issue.

      cheers, Paul
