Overlooking the whole list of new features, it’s very disappointing to note so little actual OS-enhancements. Like you could add passkeys and the ability to work with different compression methods to the list of  OS-features, but that’s it?

Where are the actual OS-enhancements? A couple of things come to mind that really need overhauling for a long time. Like when will File Explorer support long file names? Yes, I know Windows supports long file names, but Explorer doesn’t. How about ‘ye ole SysPrep? The cumbersome permissions with them check boxes for both Allow and Deny? Or the way permission inheritance works? Like – really?? Or a simple method to create a default user profile. And so forth…

I seem to be stuck on Win 11 22H2.  Check for updates finds nothing.  Today I was able to install this update: 2024-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 for x64 (KB5033920) but can’t get anything relating to 23 H 2.  Pause is off.  This is a two month old Lenovo Yoga 6.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

In Pro version you can use GPEdit to set your target feature version update to Windows 11 23H2.

In Home version you can use InControl to set the same settings.

I didn’t find the lengthy listing of the update schedules very interesting, but the information on what new updates are and how they work is golden! It’s possible to find some information on how Windows 11 updates work, but random finding of articles like “Choose where to store files in the cloud” requires a lot of luck. “Making sense of Windows 11’s 2023 updates” has high value as Microsoft continues to leave customer communications in the incomplete and random location categories.

URL for above article (there must be a much better way to do this! My next Google):

Appreciate this round-up, Lance. Nice to have it all in one place, don’t know how we would find it otherwise.

Any guesses why I am still back at 22H2? When it tells me “You’re up to date.” Last checked today at 2:19.

don’t have pause updates turned on.  I have Windows 11. Thanks for any hints.

I was also stuck on 22H2 until today, when checking for updates finally revealed the existence of 23H2 on my almost-new Lenovo PC.

I don’t understand Microsoft’s way of updating Windows OS.
Some users are waiting months for OS updates trying tricks to force updates.

Apple has more users than Windows yet every user in the world get OS update at release moment.
I just updated iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS yesterday (RC releases) moments after release announcement.

This has been learnt from Microsoft 🙁
