I posted this for those that don’t know that you can change how Word activates links. The settings displayed are from Word 2019, but should be similar in other versions of Word.
Make Word Link Friendly
What
The default way to use a link in a Word document is to hold the Ctrl key down while holding the mouse pointer over the link and clicking the left mouse button (known as Ctrl + Click). Changing that default Word Option can have Word use a link with just holding the mouse pointer over the link and clicking the left mouse button (no Ctrl key needed) making the use of links in Word documents similar to using the links in your web browser.
Why
Making all the links in all Word documents activate in the same way as your links in your web browser (point and click) makes using all links easier and only one method to remember.
How
This requires changing one setting in Word Options. This option applies to the Word application that is installed and not to any Word document; therefore, this setting must be changed on the PC that that has the Word application installed on.
o On the PC that Word is installed on, open any document (even a new one).
o Open Word Options (File>Options or Alt + F, T).
o In the left pane of Word Options select Advanced to display those settings as shown in the image below.
o Under Editing options, click the box to the left of Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink to uncheck the box and no longer use that option.
o Click the OK button to save and close Word Options.
o With that option unchecked, link activation reverts to single click with the mouse pointer. The change is immediate.
