mailmerge stalls with network connected printer (Word 2000)

With a multifunction printer connected by a network cable and print server to a single PC mail merge stops with no output with a message that printing cannot proceed if more than five pages are selected when all fields are chosen. If only one field (surname) is chosen to merge then it will print 75 pages but stops with the error message if more than 75 pages are printed. If surname and first name fields are selected then it will only print 45 pages – anything over gets the message. Any suggestions as to why this may be occurring. Windows XP is the operating system and the same mail merge works ok on a network printer that is not multifunction.

It seems strange to me that the printer selection should have anything to do with mail merge. Have you tried merging to a document instead of going directly to the printer? Also, is the merge to a mailing label, or is it a more complex document?

Thanks Wendell – We haven’t tried merging to a document and then printing – It may help. The project is a form letter. I will try your suggestion.
