I am not sure if this is an OL question or a Pub 2000 question.

I have about 400 contacts in OL divided into about 20 Catagories. Business, Family, etc.

I want to do a mail merge using just 1 catagory, say family.
If I start the mail merge from OL it will let me select the contacts in the 1 catagory,( about 50 or so) but it will only let me send the mail merge to WORD. I want to send it to a Publisher 2000 file.

If I start the mail merge from Publisher 2000 I can only get it to go get the complete contact list of 400. (even if I change the ‘Current View” in OL to reflect the Family catagory)

Is it possible to do an OL catagory merge to Publisher 2000. hairout
    Thanks

Maybe you can export a data file that Publisher can use for the merge? Outlook’s import/export filters may not have been installed by default; have your CD handy the first time you try them.

If Publisher doesn’t have an option like word does to filter contacts, what data sources will it use? You can use your current method to save a doc to use with publisher or move contacts to a different folder until the merge is complete. (I would prefer use Outlook’s mail merge dialog ot create a word document for the data source.)

If Publisher will work with it, you may be able to use Access as your intermediary. In 2000 (and 2002), when you open Access and start a new database, go into File, get External Data, Import, Files of Type, you will see an Outlook() option that allows you to select an Outlook Folder and create a database from it. I do not know if you can drill down to Categories.

Thanks everyone, I will try the suggestions. I think I will probably have to breakdown and use Word to do the mailer page and then just add it to the Pubisher document.
