I noticed in the advance options section for Macrium Resolve that there is an option for SSD Trim support. Is this something Macrium has created or is it just turning on something within Windows? What would be the advantage of it over the native application?

If you are referring to Macrium “Reflect”, here is a good explanation of the SSD Trim when restoring: https://forum.macrium.com/20411/SSD-Trim-rapid-delta-and-intelligent-copy

Thanks John.  I was thinking of DaVinci Resolve and got that tangled up with Macrium Reflect.

Anyway good link.  What I got out of it is quoted below.  As others pointed out, Macrium should just enable the trim feature when restoring an image.  Seems there would be few reasons not to for a restore to SSD.

“OS supported TRIM only TRIMs the SSD when space is deleted via the OS through file space deletion or per-allocated space deletion. The restore process does neither… it just WRITEs to the disk, so no TRIMming occurs during a restore. Even if the “restoring” OS (WinPE) supported TRIM (I’m not sure it does), no TRIM operation occurs during a WRITE operation, only during a DELETE process.

That’s exactly why Reflect pre-TRIMs the areas it plans to restore, and it doesn’t use the OS to do that (it can’t)… it actually issues the ATA TRIM command directly to the SSD from the REFLECT restoration process (you can do these things if you’re privileged enough). If the restoring OS was guaranteed to have TRIM support contained within it, REFLECT could just directly DELETE the blocks it plans to restore prior to restoration… but I don’t believe it can count on it.”
