I’ve been backing up my computers by making  images of my SSD drives.

Using an Acronis USB boot disk, this has worked well for me. (No Acronis software is loaded on my computers.)

My new computer has an M.2 drive that is not recognized by the old Acronis boot disk software.

Does Macrium Reflect 7 Free allow me to make a USB boot disk that will recognize an M.2 drive without loading the entire software package on my computer?

Thanks for you help and time.

      WS,

I’m assuming the answer is yes since Version 6 of MR recognizes the M.2 Drive in my machine from a USB Key Boot device. Can’t see any reason version 7 wouldn’t.

planckster, why don’t you want to install the backup software? This is one of the first things I install.

RG, did you create the boot USB from an installed version? If so it would have picked up the M2 driver from your machine.

      cheers, Paul

        Paul,

Yes I did. But I also use that USB Key on all of my other machines.

For some reason the OP may not want to keep it on his machine after creation of the USB Key boot media.

      Paul T,

I’m a little bit of an “odd duck”. I don’t want anything installed on my computer that I don’t really need.

By using a USB boot key, it can be used on any of my computers. I prefer keeping ssd images. My “data” is installed on a separate computer hard drive that I copy to an external portable hard disk. Portions of this data backup are used between all my computers.

      Thanks for your input.
