      The most significant fact is that, despite Apple’s persistent comparisons of M3 with M1, the new MacBook Pros replaced M2-based models.

      No. The M3 is intended more for upgraders from Intel CPUs and M1 CPUs.

      I wasn’t clear. What happened is that the M2 MacBook Pros were replaced by M3 MacBook Pros, but Apple’s marketing approach was to make comparisons between M1 and M3 processors. Someone not watching carefully might walk away thinking those differences were between M2 and M3.
