• Lost rules (Outlook 2002 SP2)

I’ve had a weird thing recently (which I have a vague memory of happening before), where all the rules I’d set up for one of my e-mail accounts (an IMAP one) just disappeared completely. They were fine for the other account, and I didn’t do anything to them – they just went! Does anyone have any idea why, or how I could get them back? I did recently ‘Compact’ my account, but that should get rid of them.

I apologise if this has been discussed already – but without a search facility I can’t find any posts on it!

    Thanks,

    Alex

PS. There are some other weird oddities with Outlook: for example, sporadically the hourglass in the bottom right of the screen is permanently there, either “Loading…” or “Sychronizing hierarchy…” or “Downloading…”. Sometimes this appears to cause Outlook to run slowly or hang, whereas at other times it has no effect. The only way to get rid of it seems to be restarting Windows – just quitting Outlook doesn’t do the trick. Any ideas?

Try searching for a file with the extension RWZ. Make sure that show Show Hidden Files and Folders in Control Panel|Folder Options is checked and, if you’re running WinXP, that you search Hidden Files and Folders. HTH

Thanks for the reply. I do have a .rwz file (Microsoft Outlook Internet Settings.RWZ, located in Application DataMicrosoftOutlook). I’m not entire clear what I’m meant to do about it – is it a good thing, a bad thing,…?

        Thanks!

By using Tools|Options|Rules Wizard|Options|Import Rules you should be able to rediscover all your rules.

Thanks for that – I tried it, but it seems they were rules I exported ages ago, and were not the ones I use currently. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Since I switched to Outlook 2002, I can’t find my RWZ file. Perhaps the rules are now stored in the PST? If so, it’s not good news for you, unless you have an old backup of your PST from before you lost your rules. Perhaps I’d better back mine up. wink
