• Lost password (Word97)

I was directed to modify a Word97 document, unfortunately for me – the person who saved the document on our file server also password protected the document (actually a form). The person no longer works for the company (retired and moved out of the area to parts unknown) and we have been unable to make contact with them. Is there an easy (read cheap and fast) way to get rid of the censored password protection on the form?

A Google search for “microsoft word password crack” or “microsoft word password cracker” (without the quotes) should yield lots of hits. Some of the commercial products have free trial downloads.

I recommend the technique outlined in post 278805.

You also could download and install the OpenOffice.org suite from http://www.OpenOffice.org/%5B/url%5D, but that’s a lot more work.

          yet another technique:

          start a blank document.
choose insert->file and browse to the protected document. confirm. voil
