Lost folder

I I wanted to move a folder (that contained about 10 files that I added to periodically) from within another folder back to the parent folder, My Documents.
I opened the folder called Edit which contained the folder called Add, minimized the screen with the list of files, and slid Add onto the desktop, with the intention of dragging in back into My documents.
This procedure has usually worked in the past for moving files and folders.
I may have accidentally crossed out of the bottom of screen or something like that, and the folder disappeared.
I could not find it in the recycle bin, nor by searching.
I had always been under the impression that files did not disappear until they were deleted from the recycle bin.
Has anyone had a similar expeience?

It does happen that the files are just gone if deleted from a shared folder or drive remotely but if this is all on the same system then they have to be there somewhere. Did you search with all parameters active such as all system folders and hidden folders and all drives? I have to think the folder could only slip into another sub folder somewhere and get hidden, not deleted by the action you describe. Also try arranging the desktop icons in case the folder is just off screen, which can happen under certain conditions.

If they are really not there and its all on the same system then that is a mystery.

You might be able to recover the files if you are unable to find them as suggested by Bryon above by;
1 If they have not been overwritten already and …
2 If you can recall their exact file names and types.

As you were. I found the missing folder in a sub folder of My Documents , Genealogy, where it was not intended to be.
However, I wonder why my previous searches had not found it.
My apologies for using up space and the time spent by the responders
