Losing editability

Well, I am still using Photodraw even tho it will not be continued. I have recently upgraded to PD2 (very cheap because it is dead)and have a frustrating problem. Once a file is saved with a whole lot of edits (a doctored photograph) when you re-open it is is not editable. All previous edits have become part of the pic and there is no ungroup option. You can add new changes (eg lines) but cannot change existing ones. Any ideas? I have also found that it (and PD1) “loses” files in that you save, but cannot re-open. You can see the file but when you try to open it the programme locks up.

what formnat are you saving the edited files as? you need to use the native photodraw format.

Thanks for your reply. I am working from jpegs. The problem occurs if I save as jpeg or as a mix. With mix I have found I sometimes cannot open the file even though I can see it, and as I have not found any improvement in quality between a jpeg and a jpeg saved as a mix, I do tend to save as jpeg. But I have found the problem with both file types and it is annoying to lose work.

jpgs (and most other file types) are considered “flat” and in order to save the image to be editable, you need to use the native format of the editor – for photoshop it’s psd, for paint shop pro, it’s psp. Saving it in any other file type merges the changes and saves it as a “flat file”.

while you are working and when done, save as the native type, save a copy as jpg when you are satisfied with it. if you need to come back and edit, open the native format, not the jpg. i don’t have photodraw installed to verify, but i’m pretty sure mix is the native format.
