My home PC takes a really long time to boot (7 hours give or take. I give up after about 3 and go to sleep) It reaches the startup splash screen. The complete bar goes to about 60% and sits there.

Any suggestions on what might be tying it up for so long?

We’re probably going to need a little more information such as
How long has this been happening?
      Did it suddenly start?
What SP’s do you have installed?
      What have you tried?
Have you run a full chkdsk?

      For starters, try:

ah details. Would be helpful, wouldn’t they.
        Win 2000 SP2
It has been going on for a while. I had forgotten about it since I rarely turn the thing off. This weekend brought back all the memories.
Chkdsk is run when I reboot, but again that is not often.
The event logs do not show any errors on boot. Once it boots, all devices are shown to be working just fine.
I have not tried anything (other than not rebooting) since I had no good idea where to start. (probably would cause more trouble than it cures)
Not much in there that is helpful, but that is why I am stuck also.

OK – read the MS article and see if any of the tips there lead to anything . . .
