The error is known by Microsoft, ergo why they point to that lost profile KB.  But what isn’t fully known is the root cause as there are many who only had Defender and nothing else  — or in the case of servers – probably no antivirus at all.

Yep.

But why, oh why, don’t they just come out and acknowledge it?

Particularly if they aren’t going to fix it with the March patches.

the missing feature update deferral setting problem was never acknowledged but MS did quietly fix the problem with the KB4522355 & later CUs – took several months to fix it though

We’ve installed KB4537821 on around 30 2012r2 servers and I have not witnessed any issues in that regard. Most of those are running on VMWare but a couple are physical machines.

I wonder if the “lost desktop” bug on Server 2012 R2 is happening only on certain SSDs instead of traditional HDDs
