I will be teaching some computer classes and part of the focus will be on
databases. I would like to find some tables that are already populated with
data such as customers, products, etc. Ideally, a full database so I can
    demonstrate relationships, etc.

Anyone know where I might find such populated tables? Either Access or Excel
format would be okay. The NorthWind DB from MS doesn’t quite fit what I am looking for.

I started this post with a retail model in mind but any type of database
would work.. coin collection, Daisy Hill Puppy Farm, etc. I just want to
avoid creating a bunch of data.

    Thanks for any leads.

Look at the databases that come with any version of Access, eg. Northwind, Orders.

Are you using a book? All the textbooks and training manuals come with student and/or instructor discs that contain example data. (Although many are a bit silly) Honestly, I find it is easier to teach by beginning with my own example, since I can then match it to the way I present theory and practice.

All my classes are “hands-on”, so my example is just an introduction; the students learn by creating the objects (and inputting the data) themselves. They learn better this way – it’s hard to look at unfamiliar data and assimilate the concepts.

I might be able to cite a few sources if I knew what kind (level and length) of class. Academic or company training?

The class is an a college level “Intro to Info Processing” class. I was hoping that I might be able to use the data to show not only relationships but also to demo some simplistic data mining.

I will try to use the NorthWInd demo, with some modification.

Have you chosen a textbook? Check with the publisher as most textbooks have an instructor’s edition that you can order. If this is a data processing course, I can cite a textbook that uses Access/SQL examples and theory background that I have been reasonably pleased with.
