    Greetings all,

I have an odd situation with my update to 22H2. First of all, I installed it about six weeks ago, yet my system claims it was installed on August 21, 2021 (below). This is not confidence-inspiring!

    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 22H2
    Installed on ‎21/‎08/‎2021
    OS build 19045.2604
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

But the biggest change I have noticed is that shutdown now takes more than 10 minutes but less than half an hour — this is derived from me sitting at the laptop for 10 minutes before getting bored, then coming back 20mins later to find that shutdown had occurred.

Obviously my usual method now is to hold the Start button for long enough to force the shutdown. Not ideal, I know, but the laptop starts up fine afterwards.

Dows anyone have any thought on why this might be occurring?

I don’t know when it started but I was having slow for me shutdowns of about one minute.  My fix was turning off “fast startup.”   Go “power & sleep settings” then “additional power settings” then “choose what the power buttons do” then turn off fast startup.  The fix may not take effect until you have rebooted one more time.

My suspicion was that the system was wiping the page file during shutdown because it took longer the bigger the page file was.

After the fix my shutdown is about 10 seconds.

As you have a Pro edition of Windows 10, I suggest temporarily enabling the policy setting for Display highly detailed status messages in the Local Group Policy Editor (LGPE).

This, hopefully, will display information to help you identify shutdown processes that may be hanging.

      1. In the taskbar Search Box, begin typing group then select Edit group policy > Open when it appears at the top of the search results.

      2. When the LGPE appears, select the Computer Configuration node (a) at the top of the *left*-hand navigation pane then expand Administrative Templates (b)> System (c). by clicking on the right-facing arrows/chevrons.

      3. In the *right*-hand Settings pane, scroll all the way down to the entry for Display highly detailed status messages (d) and double-click on it:

      lgpe_detailed_status_messages

      4. When the entry’s Settings dialog appears, change the selected radio button from Not Configured to Enabled button then click on the Apply and OK buttons to dismiss the dialog. You can now close the LGPE.

(Once you’re discovered the cause of the delayed shutdown, remember to change the radio button for Display highly detailed status messages entry from Enabled back to Not Configured.)

      Hope this helps…
