I have a local network with my machines.  One is a Vista laptop, one is a W10 laptop and one is a W10 Desktop.

The W10 Desktop is my ‘main’ machine and it can send or fetch data from each of the other machines.  The W10 Laptop can also send and fetch data from each of the machines.

The Vista Laptop can send and fetch data from the W10 Laptop but NOT the W10 Desktop.

The following first image is from the Vista laptop.  The subsequent images are of the sharing configuration of the W10 Desktop

I feel for you. Windows networking can be a major and frustrating pain in the neck. In my own local network, which includes Windows computers from Vista to Windows 11, no one machine can access every other machine on the network: some just won’t show up, and the list of inaccessible machines varies from one computer to the next. Typically when a PC can’t find another PC via Windows Explorer, I can still access that other PC by entering the latter PC’s computer name (e.g., \\CYBERTOOTH-PC) in an Explorer window and then creating a shortcut on the desktop from the result.

In your case, though, it looks like you may have already tried to access a Win10 computer from your Vista laptop by using this “\\” method, and had no luck. The best solution might then be to communicate with your Vista laptop from one of the Windows 10 machines. This is not ideal, of course, but you should still be able to find and move files back and forth.

P.S. Another idea might be to change the encryption setting (from your fourth image) to “Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption” on the Windows 10 machine that the Vista laptop can’t access, then see if the laptop can now access that Win10 system.

I changed the encryption option as shown in 03 picture.  I also rebooted the Vista machine.

Now when attempting to access ChuckW8 I get the following

Another idea is to try accessing that computer by typing its network IP address in Explorer, rather than the computer name, e.g. \\192.168.1.xxx.
