I dont kow if anyone has done this before, but I have just replaced my wife’s laptop and did a clean install on her old one.  When I went through the process of installing windows, it would not let me have a local account despite using ‘nothanks@thanks.com etc.

So I created a user account and made it admin. I opened it and deleted the MS account which left me with my user account as admin. The original MS truncated account remained in users and would not allow deletion, so I did msconfig and safe boot and deleted it from there. On checking the profile just the correct one shows. I then finished installing apps etc then Shutup10 and ultimate windows tweaker 5 and all seems OK.

Hope this is of use to someone

This seems to be a pretty good method !

Are you sure that the Microsoft account is gone ?

I’m surprised that there is no comments about your post.

I think it’s GREAT that you were able to get rid of the MS-based account, but, once you got into the Safe Boot area, just which command line commands or other GUI-based tools were you able to use to delete the stubborn MS-based account?

After doing msconfig/safe mode, to get rid of the folder entry in users I opened This PC  and selected the c drive/ users – right clicked and delete to remove the now empty MS folder.

There does not seem to be any trace of the MS account.  The profile in advanced system settings shows default and computername\Me entries.

I have check on my PC in C:/users/my name and there is no MS folder there.

          It is in C:/users/myname/AppData/Local/Microsoft.

Is it the path you went to delete the MS folder ?

Also, how did you know that this MS folder was related to the Microsoft account ?

            Different accounts are in C:\Users.

Do not delete anything under C:\Users\yourname

In fact, do not delete anything under C:\Users unless you have an image backup and are absolutely sure you know what you are doing.

The MS Account entry in users will be something like abcbr which will be the first letters of the microsoft user name you put in when first installing windows. This is the one to delete in safe mode when you have done the other steps.

Also go to settings/accounts and you will see your current account and it will show if local account administrator.

In my C:/users, I only see Default,Public, and my user name.

There is no account showing there.

Then you only have one account – your user name.

Do you know if it’s a local or MS account?

        cheers, Paul

It’s a local account. Thank’s for the explanation.
