Does anyone know of a program to load apps to an iTouch 2nd gen without the use of iTunes? For reasons unknown I cannot install iTunes (any version) on to a Vista machine. I continually get various error codes most of which are the 2018. Yes I have tried many of the “fixes” for this code and others. The computer works perfect other wise including the ability to load new programs except iTunes without incident. And yes I tried several different ways and programs to completely remove any Apple software from the machine including Revo and the laboriously Regedit search and delete. Nothing works. The only real fix is to re-install the OS which at this point in time is not a viable solution. Also, jail breaking is also not an option. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have not tried this but it looks promising. http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/
Also others have reported that http://www.dropbox.com/ can be used for this.

        Thanks, Russ,

I looked over the Web site and I don’t think it’s what I’m looking for. In fact there are many free programs that will let manage the iTouch without ever using iTunes. My problem is being able to download and install iTunes apps without the use of iTunes running on the computer.

Use the App Store application built into the iPod Touch.

Can you post a full screen shot of the error, plus any background windows and processes? Can you also look at the Event Viewer and let us know what it says about the error? I can’t find a reference to that specific error code occurring upon installation of iTunes.

Can’t use the built in app because she has no account set up and can’t set an account without the iTunes installed on computer. A catch 22!:o:

I think its a general code from Microsoft for any program that won’t load.

Here is a cut and paste of a Google search showing this same code:

Be that this is my daughter’s machine she doesn’t want me tying it up any more. So we decided she will use my machine and iTunes account and program to get any apps she may want and then use one of the many free manager programs to add her music and so on. But thanks for the offer.

If you have iTunes installed on your machine, create an Apple ID for your daughter and log into iTunes with those credentials. Then use the AppStore on the iPod with the new credentials and she will be independent from your account.

You will have limited control over what she installs however, so your shared method has some advantages.

      Hi Norm,

CopyTransManager is a popular replacement for iTunes and is compatible with the iPod Touch.
