    Good morning all,

I’m trying to create a header that contains some information from the first page of my memo. I would like it to contain the date off the first page, who the memo is to and who the memo is from. I think that I need to use FIELDS but I’m not sure. How do I go about it?

If I change the date / to / from information, I would like the header to automatically update, is this possible?

    Thanks

Use bookmarks and REF fields for this.

Select the date on the first page of your memo. Then select Insert/Bookmark…, assign a name (for example MemoDate) and click Add.
Repeat this for the To and From info, with appropriate names for the bookmarks.

Next, activate the Header. Click where you want the date to go, then select Insert/Cross-Reference… Select Bookmark from the first combo box, Bookmark Text from the second (the default setting for bookmarks), uncheck the Insert As Hyperlink box, select the MemoDate bookmark in the list of bookmarks and click Insert.
Repeat this for the other bookmarks.

Another way to insert the references is Insert/Field…; select REF from the list of field names, and MemoDate from the list of bookmarks, then click OK.

The fields in the header will be updated automatically when you print or print preview the document.

Fantastic – worked like a dream!

These memos will be a work of art any day now!

        Thanks a heap.
