Hi there again,

I currently have a subreport in my database which is an excel spreadsheet, stored in a sharedocs folder on our network, when I open my database the spreadsheet opens up fine and I can view the data within the database with no problems, however if one of the other guys in our office opens up the same database which I have given them sharing rights to they can see everything in it apart from the excel file, it tells them it has been opened exclusively by another user (me)? If they open the database first they can they see it and I get the error flag any help….ta Steve in Southampton UK

By default, an Excel spreadsheet is single-user (unlike an Access database). When you open the linked Excel table in your database, whether directly or indirectly, it will be locked exclusively by you, and other users can’t view it in your database (or in Excel itself, for that matter).
It is possible to share a workbook, but that is not an attractive option – it can lead to corruption.

I don’t know how often the workbook is updated. If it is relatively static, you could import it into your database. You wouldn’t have the locking problem then. You could repeat the import as needed.
