Windows 11 might be a free upgrade for retail users but, correct me if I’m wrong, there are tens of millions of volume license customers out there that will need to purchase a new license if their Software Assurance is expired, or they didn’t have SA to begin with.  So there’s that.

Windows 11 is a free upgrade to any Windows 10 user, retail or not.
It is free to Windows 7, 8.1 users providing they upgrade to Windows 10 (still free) first.

The free upgrade to Windows 10 is still available too.

Yes, but Microsoft says they can’t confirm it as “properly licensed” 😉

Meaning the only way you *know* it is properly licensed *by Microsoft’s point of view* is you buy a new machine with it installed or buy an official copy somewhere.

So, it works, Microsoft won’t close the hole, but they say it is not “properly licensed” :-p Yeah, right…
