    hi!

quick question, as usual. does anyone know of a template for access that would allow me to enter all the items in my personal library that would work like the ones that public libraries use? i want to be able to enter all my books, tapes, CDs, DVDs, videos. albums, etc. into a database that will allow me to search by author, subject, title, track (in case of record albums, CDs, or DVDs), format (i.e. hardback, quality paper, paperback, cassette, CD, DVD, etc.), date of publishing, or any other type of field. we have several hundred record albums, several thousand books, more tapes and CDs than i care to think about, and plain flat out just a lot of media in different forms. i’m beginning to lose track of what i do and do not have, and am sometimes duplicating. i only have so much space, and would like to categorize what i do have. a typical library catalog has pretty much all that i want, except the music track info (which i would like to include the writer/s, publisher, year of release, label name, track length, track number, side (for records and tapes), in addition to the usual data, such as performer and title.

am i asking for too much here? it just seems to me that, if i can imagine it, i should be able to put it all in one database. i don’t know the first thing about laying out, and writing (correct word?) a database, so that’s why i am asking for a template instead. any and all help that you can point my way will be greatly appreciated. until the next time, take care and God bless. thankyou

Microsoft has templates for several types of collection, such as: books, music, DVDs: see Microsoft Office Templates: Health and Home, but not one that includes all media types.

thanks for your help, hans. i have a few of the templates that microsoft offers. i was simply hoping that there was one, not necessarily a microsoft product, out there that included everything. i know that, with all the talent and knowledge that is floating around this board, this was the best place to ask, as there is always someone here that knows something about just about everything, so i asked. i guess maybe i’ll have to see if i can manage to combine all the templates into one great big one and use it that way.

again, hans, thankyou for your help. until the next time, take care and God bless.
