    Hi,

Are there any loungers out there that might know the secret to upgrading the SODIMM RAm in a Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15iBY.

This model has only one RAM slot/bay with standard out of the box 4GB RAM pre-installed.

    Existing memory:   4GB  DDR3 1333MHz PC3 non buffered non ECC  1.35-1.5V 204 pin
Attempted upgrading to 8GB with above spec RAM and the machine would not boot.
Also tried DDR3L 1600MHz PC3L  1.3V non buffered non ECC  204 pin and got same result, no boot and black screen
No memory check error shown, just a black screen
There appears to be no setting in BIOS relative to RAM memory

I have searched for days and not found definitive answers anywhere to the following:
    –  is the RAM maximum limit 4GB or can it be upgraded
Most RAM vendor sites e.g. Crucial, Kingston say it can be upgraded to 8GB max and I cannot find anything on Lenovo Web Support.

    Any idea’s, anyone ??

    Thanking you in anticipation . . . . .

    Gordon.

Try this webpage on Lenovo.com – look for the processor you have (top left)

If you can find the Service Manual for the specific model/serial number you have, it will probably give you more specific information.

      Great suggestion . . . .
I checked the parts section of the Lenovo 100-15iBY Service & Parts Manual with reference to RAM FRU’s.
It only listed modules of 2GB and 4GB from which one can deduce that as 8GB is not listed it is not supported.

      Problem solved.

      Thank you

The laptop’s product overview page and service manual says maximum of 8GB. Look up the model number of the ram you are trying to swap know if it will support a slower speed of 1333Mhz. The intended replacement ram could be defective.

      If only it was that easy . . . . .

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY is not listed by Crucial.com, but the 14″ 100-14IBY model is and requires compatible DDR3L PC3L SODIMM 8GB 1600MHz 2800 1.35V unbuffered non ECC  …….  and when it arrives I will be giving one a try.

Already tried 8GB DDR3 1600MHz and DDR3 1333MHz and they don’t work, probably because they are 1.5V devices and not 1.35V ‘low voltage’ devices denoted by the ‘L’ as appended to DDR3L PC3L in the product description shown above.

I will report back when done.

      Bon chance.

maybe look at this Kingston RAM page for compatible RAM upgrades for the Ideapad 100-15iBY and similar models

edit – the Kingston brand RAM modules are 1.35v, which should work for the Ideapad 100 series
