    Converting from MS-DOS system.

User wants their old reports to look the same using Access Reports.

    Their old reports are typically:

10 Characters Per Inch 6 Line Per Inch
10 Characters Per Inch 8 Line Per Inch
17 Characters Per Inch 6 Line Per Inch
    Approx. 55 line per page

What is the best font/size to use that comes closest to legacy report font?
Should it be proportional or non-proportional for best results?

    Thanks, John Graves

Old DOS systems “usually” used a Courier mon-spaced font for reports – the TrueType font “Courier New” will do 10 characters per inch, 6 lines per inch, if you select 12 point. To get 8 lines per inch, you will have to adjust the line spacing, which means changing the height of text boxes on the reports. To get 17 characters per inch is a bit more challenging – I believe 8 point is slightly more than 17 char per inch and 9 point is somewhat less. The 6 lines per inch is the default size (0.1667) of an Access text box – note that you can change the default size. Hope this Helps.

Use courier, it’s most likely to be what they’ve been seeing. Courier is a fixed-width font, so the same number of characters will always take the same space regardless of which characters they are.
