Last Pass or Kee Pass?

Okay, i’ve finally made the decision, now I need to make the choice. Which is better, easier to use. Does one create passwords for you? Do either or both run from a USB stick? I’ve read reviews, both seem okay, but I trust this forum more than random reviews or ad blurbs. So please, let me hear from you! Roderunner, Ted, Batcher, JoeP, which do YOU use, and why? Don’t mean to impose, but I’ve put this off for WAY too long, keeping a text file, (encrypted) but it’s not enough anymore.

Your wish is my command.
I personally prefer neither Last Pass or Kee Pass. All my passwords are in separate .txt files which I zip with 7Zip and password protect them with a simple to remember password, (all have the same one) stored on a DVD-RW which is well hidden. They are also on a password protected thumbdrive. I’m almost positive that nobody enters a password everytime they visit The Lounge.

I love Last Pass and use it exclusively on all my PC’s. If I’m using a different PC all I have to do is install Last Pass on the new machine then use Last Pass to log onto all my sites. This way if I’m away from home, say visiting family I don’t have to remember to take the disk with my PW info on it, I simply use Last Pass to accomplish this.

I’ve used both for quite some time and finally (this year) settled on LastPass, and for all the reasons Ted has already mentioned. Great product that I haven’t left in my other pants at home :rolleyes:

I’ve only used LastPass and have for the past couple of years. Works great, easy to use, you can encrypt if you wish, and other things. Also, you can access the LastPass website, type in your master password and then have access to all your site’s if you are on a computer that is not at home, etc.

Okay folks,
Thank you all very much! Last Pass it will be. I have waited too long to to get to this, but this weekend, this is my project. I knew I could count on you all for guidance. So we can close this now, though I’m sure it will be helpful to some others. I did the txt file, pw protected, and encrypted. Nowadays, it just isn’t good enough. TOO MUCH stuff is on the web, and with just your email password, someone could get just about everything. So, I’m smart enough to know that I’ve been lazy and it’s past time to get this done. So, Sunday it will be.

I use KeePass exclusively because it is completely portable and works with any program I use. It also doesn’t rely on a web site being available, but I can use one a a repository if I want.
It is more complex and therefore can be tricky to set up, but I would rather that and have complete control over my passwords.

I also use KeePass exclusively, with the database stored on DropBox. That way I can access all passwords on all my machines, including my Android smartphone.

Any comments on 1Password. Seems to be very similar to roboform–even costs the same $29.95. I really like the idea of storing data locally rather than in the cloud.

I’m not exactly sure what you’ve read, but 1Password is indeed storing your passwords in the “cloud”. And its $39.99, not $29.99. Yikes! To me that’s a lot of money for something like this. There are several free password managers out there. If are are adverse to storing in the cloud, the password manager I use is Password Safe. Really, the best thing you can do is download a few of them and test them. Then pick the one to your liking.

I used to be a RoboForm fan, but I finally gave LastPass a try several years ago because RoboForm wouldn’t work well with the Opera browser (Firefox is my default browser, but I also use and like Opera). I’ve been delighted with LastPass. Even though I bought a discounted license for the most recent version of RoboForm, I haven’t used it–I’m so pleased with LastPass that I see no need for any other product. I find it very convenient that I can access LastPass from all my computers, and I can set different access rules and security settings for each of them. I’ve never used KeePass, so I can’t comment on that, but I’m delighted with LastPass.

I was a user of Xmarks, and discovered LastPass after they bought Xmarks. I am very pleased with the design and functionality of LastPass – I recommend it!

I use LastPass, and you can put it’s database on a USB if you want also, so It can be used without internet access but it is optional.

Dang, Guys!
I’m so Old School that I still keep my accounts, secret questions, ID’s and passwords on 3×5 index cards.
(remember those? Paper and pencil technology. No clouds) :rolleyes:

For just a tiny bit of technology, Firefox can remember ID’s and passwords for you.
They can be pulled up and printed out for quick reference, if you forget something.
There’s no security problem because they never leave your PC.
