I have attached a 4-page document containing a table that won’t print right. At the bottom of pages 2 and 3, the table row is continued to the next page, but the last line of text does not print on either page. It shows up in Print Preview, however.

I’m at the office and have tried printing this on three different printers–same result on all. I’ve tried exiting and restarting Word, turning the printers off and back on, but nothing helps.

If you look closely at a printout of pages 2 and 3, you’ll see that the very tops of the capital letters in the last line do print.

I’ve seen printer driver problems that cause a similar result where the bottom third or so of pages in a document gets cut off during printing, but this seems a little different.

    Any idea what’s happening here?

      It prints perfectly for me.

      Windows XP SP2
      Word 2003 SP2
HP PhotoSmart 2610 Printer – with A4 paper

Thanks, guys. The printers we use in the office are HP LaserJet 4000.

Andrew, I wasn’t able to create a PDF version yet. The computers that have our full versions of Adobe aren’t working right. I hope we can get them squared away and I’ll try again. I’ll let you know.

It prints fine for me too. It is setup for US Letter – I assume that your printer has that loaded.

The printers you are using are not inkjet printers are they. Typically lasers print much closer to the bottom of the page than a bubble jet printer can reach.

Are you able to make an Acrobat file of the document? If so, does the missing text appear on the page of the Acrobat file?

Andrew, I made a PDF version of the file. It came out exactly like when I printed the Word file, i.e., with the last line missing from both pages 2 and 3. It even showed the very tops of the capital letters in the two lines that didn’t print, just like when I printed the Word file.

I’m using Word 2002 (XP) and the FinePrint pdfFactory PDF driver, set to “emulate” a Laserjet 4050TN. I got the last line of text, but there were some gaps in the table borders. Not sure whether that is a clue or just a different problem. smile

I think the gaps in the table borders are screen artifacts due to the hairline thickness of the lines. If you zoom in you see the lines but different zooms show different gaps.

I would be double and triple checking the various page setups that Word thinks it is printing vs the page setups that the printer is printing. From your description I suspect that Word thinks the page setup is longer than the printer driver setup allows. I would normally see this when an application is setup for say A4 and the printer driver is outputting to US Letter (but printing on A4). Your doc is setup for US Letter so I’m guessing the printer driver is aiming at something shorter.

The only other suggestion is to copy the content of your doc into a new blank Word file and try it from there. This is a longshot though since the file you posted works for Jefferson and I.

We’ve been swamped today here at work so haven’t had a chance to mess with this again. I hope to check more on it tomorrow. Thanks Jefferson and Andrew for taking the time to help.
