Hi all,

I’m using a set of cells that displays the results of a multiplication (formatted in currency). The numbers only seems to show up to $999,999.99 but some of the calculations gives numbers in the millions. After $999,999.99 the cells just shows ########. Is there a way to show the million dollar results too?

newbrain It gets to us all at times smile

Even with wider columns I think that you will only get the first 15 digits, after thats it all zero’s

Just out of interest here, what’s the best way of dealing with (very) large number formats? Something like barcodes or account numbers for instance. Obviously you could revert to text, but what if you need numerical?

Excel simply doesn’t support more than 15 significant digits; this is a limitation imposed by the way numbers are stored:
Double (double-precision floating-point) variables are stored as IEEE 64-bit (8-byte) floating-point numbers ranging in value from -1.79769313486231E308 to -4.94065645841247E-324 for negative values and from 4.94065645841247E-324 to 1.79769313486232E308 for positive values.
If you need to store numbers with more than 15 significant digits, store them as text, or use a dedicated financial application.

Thanks Hans. Text is not that bad actually, since sorting etc. is still viable.
