…which is a problem for me.

I have tried various fixes. In Device Manager I went to the power management tabs and disabled “Allow this device to wake computer” on all the mouse entries and on the keyboard entries and even on Bluetooth.

Yet the computer persists in waking on any slight movement of the mouse.

Any ideas how to stop this from happening?

It is an HP Envy laptop.

    Thanks

Have you rebooted after making those changes?

      Yes I have.

BTW, not sure if it is related or not, but this new HP Intel i7 laptop takes about 15 seconds to go to sleep, which seems oddly long. My previous HP i5 laptop takes about 3 seconds.

      Thanks

Check Task Manager Startup Tab.  There might be a lot baggage loaded on boot that is unnecessary.

        Desktop mobo Asus TUF X299 Mark 1, CPU: Intel Core i7-7820X Skylake-X 8-Core 3.6 GHz, RAM: 32GB, GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti 4GB. Display: Four 27" 1080p screens 2 over 2 quad.

This computer is new and has not had time to accumulate junk startups yet. And I’ve disabled some already. So there are only 6 startups.

Also, not that it really matters to me, but for information if it helps, the touchpad will wake the computer too, even though I also have that one disabled in Control Panel on the touchpad’s Power Management tab.

      Thanks

      Laptop wakes when mouse moves

Wakes from Sleep ? Hibernation ? Shutdown ? Lid closed ?

How would you prefer to wake up your PC ?

My laptop never goes to sleep, only display shuts down after 15 min.
I wake up the display by moving the BT mouse.

      It wakes from sleep.

I wake my old computer with the power button, the mouse is too touchy and wakes it when I don’t want it to.

I have display set to never shut off. I want to be able to tell when my computer is awake or asleep. Having the screen set to never time out allows me to know if it is awake or asleep. If the screen is on I know it is awake. If off, I know it is asleep.

I don’t like the fan turning on and off when I am away from the computer. Just sucking in dust and using the cpu when there is no reason for the computer to even be on.

I’ve done some research and I think I know what the issue is.

      https://www.elevenforum.com/t/pc-with-modern-standby-wakes-upon-mouse-kb-trigger.17565/#post-336852

When I run this in cmd prompt:    PowerCfg -a

It says   S1, S2, S3 are not supported by the system firmware.   Only S Zero   Modern Standby

      From the link above:
      Your computer is behaving correctly.
There is no “fix” for what you are experiencing because there is no fault.
You do not have “sleep” [despite MS muddying the waters by leaving that as the name of the action in Start, Power & using the word elsewhere.]
There is no need to run any diagnostic test of any kind.
There is no fix of any kind.

You have S0 Modern standby aka S0 Low power idle.
      It is an idle condition.
      It is not “sleep”.
S0 Modern standby is initiated when Power options [or some other utility] turns your display off.
Any action that would rouse the display in any of your previous computers will, in this S0 Modern standby computer, rouse the whole computer. It is not “waking” the computer because the computer was not asleep.

And there’s no options in the BIOS like in the old days, to adjust sleep modes.

A trackball instead of a mouse could be less likely to move the cursor or wake the laptop if bumped accidentally, I would recommend Logitech.
