A couple of nights ago I was starting to project from my laptop to the TV and before I accomplished that there was a flash of brightness on the laptop screen which very shortly reverted to normal. During the brief period of brightening, you could still see everything on the screen.

Next day, when I opened up the computer the screen looked brighter and with a bluer tint or colder display. I’ve restarted, shut down and started, updated to Win 10 22H2, looked for software updates from Dell. That resulted in updating the BIOS and a couple of other things but not the graphics software. I’ve also installed the current graphics software without uninstalling it first and none of these things solved the problem.

The display clearly looks different than it used to although not terribly different. I’ve also fixed the appearance by keeping night light turned on. Working with Dell I’ve run every diagnostic and nothing turns up as a problem. Now they want me to do a clean install of Windows which I would prefer not to do.

The PC is an Inspiron 5515 a little over a year old. Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics, 1801 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)

Would uninstalling the graphics driver and then manually reinstalling be worth a try or does anyone have any other ideas regarding the problem and solution?

The colour cast may be because the default colour profile used for the LCD display panel has changed.

Have you seen this Dell How to Calibrate LCD Panel Color Temperature in Windows 10 support article or this TenForums How to Calibrate Display Color in Windows 10 tutorial?

I suggest you try recalibrating the colour profile before removing/reinstalling graphics drivers.

      Hope this helps…

Thank you, I had found that and tried it several times but had trouble using it. I’ve tried again and I think it has helped. I’ve reached a point where I’m not sure if I imagining the problem. It becomes more noticeable after dark or it did last night. I’ll see what it looks like after dark.

If you have “Night Shift” turned on, and either on automatic, it can change the screen appearance drastically when it shifts in the evening depending on the setting of color shift to less or more warm.

Win 10 has Night Light and while I didn’t have to use it prior to dark I’ve now started using it during the day to warm up the image back to what I was used to seeing. I don’t know what happened and hope it doesn’t end in a failure of some hardware component although I did extend the warranty.

For years I’ve had the program f.lux on my PC but haven’t used it on this PC until now. The problem with Win 10 Night Light was that it didn’t come on in the morning automatically but with f.lux you can set the morning color to whatever max figure you choose and then it darkens normally after dark. That has solved my problem but still doesn’t help me figure out if something has broken on the PC and since it works and nothing else has changed, I’ve quit bothering trying to figure it out.
